Are you pondering what I'm pondering?
No SharePoint on Longhorn Itanium.

Seems like it'll run just fine (in fact, an Itanium machine would be overkill for SharePoint), but they're not optimizing the OS for SharePoint, instead focusing on apps that *are* processor and memory hogs. Of course, optimizing it for SPS indexing would be a step in the right direction, but I doubt they'll touch that older technology, given the probability that it will be going away in favor of something that's newer and faster.
Ahh, this story (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/windowsserver/bulletins/longhorn/itanium_bulletin.mspx) direct from Microsoft has the dirty admission. That ComputerWorld article says that Itanium Longhorn and SharePoint won't "fit", but the Microsoft site plainly says "Windows Server roles that don't apply to these workloads for example, fax server, Windows Media Services, Windows SharePoint Services, file and print servers, and others, won't operate on Windows Server "Longhorn" for Itanium-based systems." Personally, I think they're shooting themselves in a foot a bit over that one, but really, would SharePoint benefit from an Itanium processor anyway?
yea, but I just bought an Itanium from HP to encourage developers to move towards 64-bit platforms! Hopefully I can at least put SQL Server 2005 on my Itanium - and point WSS to that SQL???? Will WSS SP2 support WSS databases on SQL 2005?
Susan, I don't think that has been documented yet. <Todd />
