We just ran into this over the weekend. After a successful upgrade to MOSS we tried to uninstall SharePoint Portal Server 2003. The uninstaller hung several times without successfully removing the application. It turns out that the uninstaller was unable to stop the “
SharePointPS Search” service. I manually shut the service down and disabled it. Following a reboot, the uninstallation completed without error.
