It's beginning to feel a lot like...

On the 9th Day of Christmas, my server said to me ... 9 new procedures, 8 Gigs of RAM, 7 new disks, 6 prompt arrays, 5 image drives, 4 new machines, 3 custom apps, 2 new domains, 1 new exchange and a stress free 'e SharePoint upgrade...

Blooper 1:
Ever been doing an upgrade at 3am and found yourself wondering why something plain and simple isn’t working? Well, here’s one – configuring the incoming e-mail on document libraries, now a well documented procedure. But it’s the little things that can catch you unawares. Like, the fact that the default in-coming e-mail setting in document libraries is not to save the original e-mail which means not saving the e-mail body. So, if you’re testing post upgrade and find that libraries aren’t receiving e-mails, this is probably because you haven’t included any attachments and have forgotten to check the save original e-mail! New Year task 1: configure all document libraries and lists on server to automatically accept e-mail messages.

Blooper 2:
Unable to view SharePoint e-mail alerts in Outlook 2007 RTM client, instead get a “Cannot open this item” error dialogue. But can view the alerts in OWA and can view other SharePoint messages in Outlook 2007, such as the welcome message and workflow e-mail notifications. This one I’m still looking into, but it appears to have something to do with a form inconsistency between SharePoint format and Outlook 2007 format. New Year task 2: ?

Blooper 3:
In creating a new site in the Site Directory, with approval on, the link to the new site isn’t available on the Categories page to other users (contributors) until it is approved. But in the meantime, those users can click on View All Site Content and scroll down to Sites and Workspaces to access the site link. I guess this stands for links other than those to internal sites.

On that final note, Merry Christmas all and onward bound to 2007. Happy holidays!

On blooper #2 we had the same issue and opened a case with Microsoft. Microsoft was aware of the bug (Exchange 2003) and are working on a patch but would not commit to a release date.

For blooper #2, here's a link to the 'hotfix' but you'll need to contact Microsoft support to get it.
